June 15, 2017

Canada’s 150th birthday is fast approaching! How are you celebrating this mega milestone? Fireworks, camping, a pool party? However, you plan on ringing in 150 years, we hope it is great!  Want to add some Canadian flavour to the menu? Grab some poutine, all dressed chips, and of course, our famous Maple Kisses!

Kerr’s Maple Kisses are made with 10% real Canadian Maple Syrup. What better way to celebrate Canada’s big birthday, than with a truly Canadian product. Our Maple Syrup is sourced from local Canadian Sugar Shacks, and are made in our plant based out of Toronto.

Maple syrup is a natural sweetener that not only tastes great, but contains over 65 antioxidants and features high levels of zinc and manganese! Canada produces 71% of the world’s pure maple syrup, 91% of which is produced in Quebec.

Did you know:

  • It takes approximately 40 litres of maple sap to make 1 litre of maple syrup

  • The sap, which comes out of the tree with a sugar content of approximately 2%, is boiled until it reaches between 66% and 67.5% sugar content.

  • Maple syrup is made from the sap of primarily sugar, red and black maple trees

  • Any maple tree measuring about 8 inches in diameter or more can be tapped.

  • It is allowed to tap larger trees more than once (for every additional 20 cm) during maple harvest season, up to a maximum of three taps per tree and season

  • Canadian maple syrup is exported to approximately 50 countries

  • In 2007, Canada produced 67.6 million pounds of maple syrup
