There are some holiday traditions that should never die: writing letters to Santa, hanging stockings, drinking eggnog (well, maybe not this one). One of our favourite holiday traditions in drinking mulled wine on a cold winter's night.
We wanted to make a mulled wine recipe that's all our own. Much like may of our products, we have taken a classic recipe and added our own modern twist, and so we bring you: Spiced Fruit Drop Mulled Wine.
Kerr's Spiced Fruit Drops use many of the flavours found in classic Mulled wine (cloves, lemon, cinnamon), so Spiced Fruit Drop Mulled Wine felt like a natural pairing. Here's what you'll need:
1 bottle of wine
¼ cup brandy
1 orange, sliced (plus additional for garnish, optional)
8 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks (plus additional for garnish, optional)
¼- ½ cup Spiced Fruit Drops (we recommend using a single flavour for the whole amount)
Depending on the flavour of Spiced Fruit drops you choose to use in your mulled wine, we recommend different fruit and spice combinations:
Cardamom-Grapefruit: Add 1/2 grapefruit sliced and 3 cardamom pods.
Clove-Pear: Replace the orange with 1 pear sliced.
Mace-Lemon: Replace half the orange with half of a lemon.
Chili-Mango: we do not recommend using flavour candy for this recipe - save this one for eating!
Cinnamon-Lemongrass: Replace half of the orange with half of a lemon, add one more cinnamon stick.
Combine the ingredients in a stove pot or slow cooker. Cover and heat on low until the liquid is hot and the spices have infused. Strain before serving, and garnish with a cinnamon stick and slice of orange (optional).
