Wedding season, the sweetest season of all, is in full swing! If you are one of the many Canadian couples tying the knot between June and August, you’re probably well into the planning stages. You’re also no doubt aware of how costly weddings can be, so to help you out we’ve gathered up some DIY ideas to help make your special day as sweet as possible – without breaking the bank!
There is no better way to say ‘I do’ than with candy, and not just the eye candy that’ll be on the bride’s ring finger either. If you’re looking for a way to sweeten your big day, we’ve got you covered.
Flowers are expensive, so consider using something else entirely to decorate your venue. Make your own candy centerpieces to replace the traditional flower vases, or fill a vase with jelly beans or peppermints, or candy drops in your wedding colours, then top with a white pillar candle. Better yet, everyone will want to bring home a vase filled with treats, so turn it into a game to get guests involved and have a little fun!
We all know that candy wedding favours are always a crowd favourite, so why not jazz things up a bit? Set up a candy bar with wedding-themed treat bags for your guests. Stock an assortment of individually wrapped candies and chocolates in decorative bowls and as guests leave, they can fill a bag with their favourite treats. This will add to your overall décor too!
You could even go with a bundle of lollypops tied with a wedding-themed tag and matching ribbons, thanking guests for sharing in the celebration.
Want something a little more outrageous? How about a candy-themed wedding? We’re not just talking centrepieces, wedding favours or a candy bar - why not sugar-coat the whole event? Most wedding gowns look like spun sugar anyhow, so go over the top and add some candy flair to the wedding party. Candy-striper bridesmaid dresses? Candy-coloured vests for the groomsmen? “Sugar Sugar” playing as you walk down the aisle?
You’re right, probably best to just stick with the candy bar...
